Starting at the Boggy Draw trailhead, head out the Boggy Draw trail, then take a left on Bean Canyon Trail. At the bottom of Bean Canyon Trail, turn left again to get on the McPhee Trail. The trail parallels the House Creek road before gaining the sandstone rim above McPhee Reservoir. The trail traverses the rim and goes in and out of a few steep drainages along the reservoir, before dropping through through a natural stone slot formation and a few steep switchbacks. The trail finishes at the Dolores Cemetery. To complete the loop, ride back up to the Boggy Draw Trailhead or leave a car in town to run a shuttle.
(Boggy Draw Trailhead) Beginning in downtown Dolores, turn north off of Highway 145 onto 11th Street and follow the road (which becomes County Road 31) up to the top of the mesa. Turn right (east) on Road W and travel approximately one mile until you cross a cattle guard and the forest boundary. The parking lot and trailhead is located on the left side of road once you enter the Forest boundary. (Cemetery Trailhead) To get to the cemetery trailhead, turn north off of Highway 145 on B Street (avoid driving through the fire station parking area) and turn left on Central Ave/Rd 28. Follow Central/28 to a large parking area on the right, near the Dolores Cemetery and McPhee boat ramp.
