History

Chapman Hill is named for Colton Chapman, one of a group of rabid skiing enthusiasts who lived in Durango in the early 1940s. Like skiers everywhere, Chapman and his group decided they needed some assistance getting to the top of their local hill and started to build a tow-cable. Chapman took charge of the operation. Later, he was known to promote skiing among kids in town, helping them make skis out of old barrels.

Getting There

To access Chapman Hill Parking Lot, from Durango follow E. 3rd Avenue northeast to merge with Florida Road. Take Florida and travel straight through the roundabout; after the roundabout, Chapman Hill is on your right hand side. The flow trail starts just south of the ice rink, head up to the top where you’ll see the sign to drop in for the flow trail. The Kids Flow trail is adjacent to the building entrance.
