Durango Receives Bicycle Friendly Award

In May of 2008 the League of American Wheelmen designated Durango as a Bicycle Friendly Community at the Silver level. This effort was put forth by the Bicycle Friendly Task Force - a group formed by Mary Oswald and Mary Monroe which consisted of Trails 2000, concerned individuals, the Safe Roads Coalition, and Healthy Lifestyles La Plata, which culminated in a Bicycle Summit that was attended by representatives from all aspects of our community.

Bill Sponsors Senator Greg Brophy and Representative Michael Merrifield deserve much credit for taking on this much needed bill. Their leadership is making Colorado's traffic laws into some of the best in the country.
