The Documentary

At 10,000+ feet, against the misty backdrop of a former sleepy mining town, Leadville, Colorado, 1400 cyclists line the starting line. For many, it will be the most difficult race of their lives. For some, a bragging right to say they raced alongside the best in the world. Some imagine victory. Most hope only to finish. But everyone will count.

The race that started 25 years ago as a running race to drive tourism in Leadville has now grown to a lottery cap at 1400 competitors, many of them the world’s most elite cyclists. But the Leadville Trail 100 "Race Across the Sky" Mountain Bike Race is not just a race of man against man: it’s man vs. man, man vs. self, man vs. elements, man vs. time. A clock set for 12 grueling hours slugs through 100 miles, over 14,000 vertical feet of climbing, some two miles above sea level, through extreme climate changes ranging from heat to hail, from rain to snow. To the racers, the risks of injury, fatigue and mechanical failure pale next to the chance that they will fall behind the 12 hour cut off mark and be eliminated.

Whether they're international stars of the sport or everyday folks with the will to finish a race whose difficulty is on par with the Ironman, the grit to push to their own physical and emotional limits strikes an elegant symmetry between racer and environment. At 12,570 feet anything can happen….Don’t miss this intense one night event! For those who can't make the Durango opening, Fathom Events hosts the nationwide release on October 22nd—find more information at www.raceacrossthesky.com or Fathomevents.com.

The documentary premier will be held at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. Doors open at 5:00 pm; the first-ever screening of the documentary including audience filming begins at 5:30 pm. The 60 – 75 minute premier will be followed by a reaction session from the audience with Lance, 2nd place finisher at Leadville Dave Wiens, Olympian Travis Brown, Founder and President of The Leadville Trail 100 Ken Chlouber and FLC Cycling Coach Matt Shriver. Tickets are $20 for balcony and $25 for orchestra and main floor seating.

Following the documentary premier, Lance will join guests for a private dinner at Fort Lewis College. Dinner tickets are $500 per person and include premium seating for the documentary premier. Each guest will receive a gift-filled Osprey Pack and the opportunity to hear and ask Lance questions. Evening events sponsored by Animas Orthopedics, Durango Coca Cola and FRS, Sodexho, Bank of the San Juans, Fort Lewis College and Community Concert Hall.

Special Edition Rocky Mountain Chocolate bars commemorating the event are available for a $3 donation at Mountain Bike Specialists, Maria's Bookshop, Bank of the San Juans and other locations around town.

Tickets are offered on a first-come-first-served basis starting Monday, September 21 at 9 am. Documentary premier, dinner tickets and further information available online at www.durangoconcerts.com or by phone 970-247-7657.
